Another one of those big finale trailers to a franchise I love(d) that I haven’t seen or noticed until a couple days after the fact.
All I see is immediate support. No one really skeptical about it. Which, yeah. Most only go to see the carnage. Fine.
I get franchises, especially horror movies franchises refuse to die... but Saw’s like the Holy Grail of that.
I mean... they JUST HAD the movie Spiral. And before that, Jigsaw. Those really turned out well enough?
Even the original slate of SEVEN MOVIES started diminishing in quality after awhile, and they knew this well. Not to say I didn’t have a hell of a time seeing Saw 3D in theaters, but that should’ve always been The Final Chapter as it was blatantly titled.
Not even understanding why people are saying “it’s going back to its roots.” What? They’re reimagining John Kramer’s cancer diagnosis yet again that was more prevalent in the later movies.
He didn’t go to fucking Mexico for a shoddy operation lmao. Jesus, that’s a dated premise. The older plot line of him being denied treatment coverage was already well-grounded and already told you well enough what needed to be said on the remaining days he was sick.
Been a fan since the original, and while I had lots of fun with the other films, it’s too bad they’ll never actually revisit the formula the first movie had as a standalone.
The original Saw was NOT just a gigantic blood fest. Was all about two suspicious and deceitful test subjects working together while being imprisoned god knows where. I’d even count it as a noir film almost. That was before they even gave the Jigsaw character a total complex.
