It’s apparently been twenty years since Adult Party Cartoon first premiered on Spike.
And to a lesser extent, twenty years since Ren & Stimpy was packaged with the likes of Gary The Rat and Stripperella, in the hopes that Viacom could further compete with Turner’s then brand new Adult Swim. Hilarious.
It’s admittedly low hanging fruit to point out obvious six episode failure was an obvious six episode failure.
I’m actually way more interested 20 years have passed since this 11 minute cartoon was unearthed over a decade after being banned by Nickelodeon.
A shelved episode from the original series that they were passing off as part of the new show.
Man’s Best Friend had lawn cigar doggie treats, pent up daddy issues, and Ren beating an old fashioned American to the brink of death with an oar.
A cartoon mastering the art of sadism (with the help of Vincent Waller and Chris Reccardi) could not be seen for an odd number of years because it was too violent for children. Plus, the perfect excuse to fire a creator already known to cause problems.
One of the few things genuinely fascinating about Ren & Stimpy just so happens to be this cartoon that got the creator shitcanned.
Viacom hired this guy back, allowed a short that’s SpongeBob-level tame by today’s standards air MA proper on the Network For Men, then realized “Oh, shit. What on earth are the rest of these new episodes?”
For what it’s worth, I recall MrBabySpencer explaining on Toonzone how he watched an episode of APC at his barber shop. I found that story to be more entertaining than the product overall.
