[The Gang Inflates]
”We piss in cans, Charlie.”
Always Sunny is one of my top favorite shows of all time, and for over a decade has been a program I continue to hold in very high regard.
That being said..... this is the first new episode of the series I’ve watched since season thirteen. We have now reached season SIXTEEN. Jesus, I know.
So I was kinda nervous about giving it another try. It’s always gonna be in the back of my mind that I’m old and so are my exotic tastes. It drags a lot of what I like down as a result because hey, I’m not gonna fucking learn about who Zendaya is.
Another thing is that I was always concerned where IASIP was heading. They’ve sadly gone High Definition a long time ago, which wasn’t so bad at first, but it’s an underlying problem. The show just became too flashy and over the top once it grew more and more as a mainstream success.
One thing I’ll say. After years of taking a break, this premiere sucked me right back into it almost immediately. That familiar feel hit decent.
At this point, everyone’s wanting to move past Covid and identify that most of us are all now in financial ruins. My life and savings were destroyed by this shit, so Inflation’s gonna be on my mind for possibly forever. The American dream!
Is this show jumping on my case about it? Absolutely not. It’s great that these assholes can’t make sense of it either.
The show seemingly goes back to its traditional roots where the gang is in squalor, and Frank’s got the upper hand. But there’s a twist here...
Charlie’s had a bathroom and an extra bedroom in his apartment the entire time. The gang all almost immediately jumps on about this, it’s the perfect derailment. What helped put it all together was Charlie’s explanation.
Only Charlie would be annoyed with having a functioning toilet in his apartment. He’d rather lay beside Frank than have his own bed, or his own room. He’s lead the most disgusting life for ages, and he wouldn’t want it any other way. THAT’S the charm of this episode.
It’s funny for Mac to be judgmental about this, because he’ll also just lay on some inflatable couch with Dennis for the night.
Without trying too hard to be all flashy and shocky, this premiere had the makings of an older episode, while giving us something entirely new.
I’m also fond of the clever way they used “Coconut Shy” for the end credits as Mac’s dying from a fancy nut allergy. Favorite song from the soundtrack!

[Frank Shoots Every Member of the Gang]
Another good one! The opener really went there.
Dennis & Dee at first perform old tricks on trying to get money out of their illegitimate father. Then it becomes a thing where they just want to take the gun away from “a dog” as they put it. They bribe him with hamburgers in the car, and allow him to piss on hydrants.
I can’t recall the last time I enjoyed something from that specific trio grouping *this much*, unless I think way back. Episode was amazing only for this story. Something special about Frank spraying bullets all over the beach, and then expecting his kids to shoot him in the back of the head once everything is said and done.
And nothing short of fitting that Frank shooting everyone else would all come from the ultimate ricochet.
I didn’t care too much for what Charlie and Mac had on the side. I just went “WTF” once Charlie’s mom tried prying her own teeth out. Reminds me of how hit and miss the treatment of her has always been for me. The sister characters also very much sucked, just annoying twats.
I can never go wrong with Mac’s mom however. She’s still hilarious, she just put her cigarette out on her son unprovoked.
And we get introduced to Mac’s uncle! Donald McDonald!
It’s crazy Donald shares the same actor as maniac Luther, but it was also a fun way to play opposite on Mac always being rejected by his own dad. Hope to see more of that new character soon!
