I saw the news break awhile ago. With other things going on, it slipped my mind for a bit. But it is something that affects me to an extent.
When I first saw this, I wasn’t even within 10 yards of being surprised.
I remember voicing my concerns back when the official boards were still running. I asked myself time and time again just how well this show was actually doing.
The good thing is, they themselves have been prepping for this long enough since Adam Reed retired. They get to end this on their own terms, and the production company will have Aqua Teen to work on. Say, remember Radical Axis?
Anyway, this is all very bitter and sad.
Seemed like once they tried doing what everyone wanted, hardly anyone was paying attention.
They got us all talking on the late/great Jessica Walter’s send off. I just feel like no one actually believes Malory continued carrying the show.
I’ve liked the past few seasons where Archer’s regained consciousness... but it’s just not 2012 anymore.
It’s tragic this show’s cultural legacy devolved more or less in a similar way as its mother show Sealab 2021.
Sealab at one point in life was a show I could always quote with my buds. It’s long since been degraded into “niche dudebro artifact” status.
Archer? About the same. Just 10 years apart and infinitely more popular of an IP.
People blame solely the coma seasons for this, but I think even that itself is being generous. Vice was the peak, and in retrospect could've stopped there. I revisited the season before the coma arc, and it appeared more desperate than I remembered.

If I could properly eulogize this show...
Archer, like Always Sunny, defined the underground humor of FX.
Even as I’m revisiting Home Movies, I have to remember how sweet it was at the time for H. Jon Benjamin to pour out McGuirk for a Frisky Dingo related pitch. And then the Sterling character soon enough grew his own identity.
You know what’s real shameful? Even with fatigue and long lost interest, Archer was still one of the most uniquely animated shows on television. It didn’t take long for them to stop mirroring Frisky Dingo shots and tone up the art.
This was a long time coming, but I’ll still be sad to see this go.
